Tinder for travel: Dwellable updates vacation rental app with ‘swipe and sort’ feature

Dwellable is taking a page out of Tinder’s playbook for its vacation travel app.

The Seattle startup released an update for its iOS app on Thursday that includes new features which are somewhat unique for a travel app.

Among them include a Tinder-like swipe-and-sort function that lets users quickly “like” or “reject” a particular vacation property and later see all of the “liked” rental options in one place.

The idea is to get away from the traditional travel search results list experience.

“We wanted an app that you could get lost in, that felt like a game; something that strived to deliver a similar emotional experience to actually going on vacation,” Dwellable wrote in a blog post.

The new app also offers users the ability to use Apple Pay to pay for their vacation rental, a price transparency tool, and a way to book rentals at the last minute.

Dwellable, which launched four years ago after a Hawaiian beach vacation didn’t quite go as planned, raised $2 million from Howard Schultz’s Maveron, Boris Wertz’s Version One Ventures, and a host of prominent Seattle angel investors this past June. The app has more than 15,000 destinations and 300,000 vacation listings
